Functional Assessments, Cognitive Assessments, Allens Cognitive Level Screen and Occupational Therapy Report Writing
A course, suitable for occupational therapists from physical and mental health settings. On completing functional assessments, cognitive assessments, teaching of the Allen's Cognitive Level screen, then combining this information into coherent and robust occupational therapy reports. Report templates and case examples are reviewed to integrate knowledge to strengthen clinical practice.
Day 1 Course Outline
Occupational therapy functional assessments, importance in clinical practice.
Administering cognitive assessments. The basics, cultural bias, practice administering two assessments, reporting results.
The Allen’s Cognitive Disability Model – its history from Claudia Allen, Allen’s Cognitive Levels, literature review to different populations
Administering and applying the Allen’s Cognitive Level Screento ascertain persons’ occupational capabilities.
Putting it all together: Completing robust occupational therapy reports and recommendations from your assessment findings
Day 2: Friday, May 8, 2026
Occupational Therapy in Older Persons Mental Health
This is a specialist course is for occupational therapists at any level working in the field of Older Person’s Mental Health. The intent is to build a robust occupational therapy focus in assessment and treatment of older persons with depression, dementia, anxiety, bipolar affective disorder and other conditions that can impact elders’ daily life. The course offers a balance of up-to-date clinical evidence, practical strategies, and case examples to strengthen your ability to work effectively with older adults and their families.
Day 2 Course Outline
Extensive review of clinical conditions in older persons MH
Treatment approaches to support intervention planning
Group work with an occupational focus
OT role in medication management
Designing OT treatment interventions for cohorts of differing functional ability.
